Yesterday my first piece of work was published. This is a special day for any writer. It took four years. This blog was it’s starting point. This blog gave me legs to get in the race. Since it’s inception, I have also found other talents along the way. I can illustrate, and recently I discovered I like formatting and putting other author’s work up on Amazon. This was a banner year for my writing. Look to the left and there’s the book I illustrated for my author friend, Diana Lesire Brandmeyer. Look to the right and there are the various blogs I write for. Now, to a published, award winning author, that may not seem like much, but I have not spent my life writing or studying art to learn to write and illustrate as these well-deserving authors and illustrators have. In fact, four years ago if you told me I’d publish anything, let alone illustrate something, I would have told you you’re crazy.
Crazy. Crazy DOES happen. Everything you see on this page is proof of that. How about you? Is there something you’d love to do, but think success in it would be crazy? You’ll never know unless you try. The best thing about trying is that even if your original goal doesn’t manifest itself, the new things you will discover about yourself along the way will astound you. You are amazing. Go out there and astound yourself. If you already have, I’d love to hear about your experience. As Mary Oliver says beow:
Tell me , what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?
And so, as another day goes by, check out my very first publication in Cape Women Online and…wow…it’s a good thing I have written this blog for three plus years.
* In addition to checking out my article under Working Women, check out the other pieces by personal friends of mine: Debbie McNaughton, Christine Mercer, Nicola Burnell, and Kate (K.L) Conway.
